Bosch recognized with “EFQM European Excellence Award”

  • Bosch is the company with the highest number of EFQM excellence awards in Portugal

Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal, in Braga, has just received the European Excellence Award from EFQM - European Foundation for Quality Management, in a ceremony held in Madrid on October 26. After a rigorous evaluation process, the European jury awarded the Bosch plant in Braga as "Prize Winner" for its performance in implementing the EFQM Excellence Model in the "Harnessing Creativity & Innovation" category. In this way, Bosch became the company in Portugal with the highest number of European Excellence Awards by EFQM.

This was the third European Excellence Award to Bosch in Braga, and the first in the area of innovation. Lutz Welling, Bosch Commercial Plant Manager in Braga, says that "the EFQM award reflects the consolidation of excellence in our organization, the competence of our team and their daily commitment to the development of innovative solutions in the area of mobility, but also in our internal processes."

The company has bet on innovation, in addition to maintaining the growth in the productive area. In this sense, it has consolidated its position in the Bosch Group as an R&D center and currently has more than 300 engineers developing solutions that will directly contribute to, among others, future mobility including autonomous driving. In addition, the company has established with the University of Minho the largest R&D project in Portugal in which approximately 75 million euros are being invested.

"We are working to make Bosch in Braga a preferred partner for development and production," says Carlos Ribas, Bosch Representative in Portugal and Bosch Technical Plant Manager in Braga. "The results of our commitment to excellence and innovation are visible: we are growing in all areas, expanding our facilities and contributing to the acceleration of the Portuguese economy with the exponential increase of our exports."

The EFQM European Excellence Award is considered Europe's highest award for excellence in business. This year, the winners in the different categories have demonstrated that their organizations work effectively in their business performance and have delivered excellent results. They act as examples for others and are considered leading organizations in their sectors.

Bosch is represented in Portugal by Bosch Termotecnologia in Aveiro, Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal in Braga, and Bosch Security Systems – Sistemas de Segurança, in Ovar. At these locations, Bosch develops and manufactures hot water solutions, car multimedia and security and communication systems, over 85% of which are exported to international markets. The Bosch Group’s Portuguese headquarters is located in Lisbon with central functions for sales, marketing, accounting and communication as well as a team which offers human resources related shared services for the Bosch Group. In addition, Bosch operates a subsidiary of BSH Hausgeräte GmbH in Lisbon. With more than 4,000 associates (as per December 31, 2016), Bosch is one of the largest industrial employers in Portugal with total net sales of 1.1 billion euros in 2016 including internal deliveries to affiliated companies.
